Add to basketFirst edition, presentation copy to "Ustadh Marouf", of this history of the Arabian Gulf. Mostly devoted to Bahrain, Qatar, and the UAE, it was written by Khalid al-'Izzi, a professor of international law and Gulf expert. In addition to sections on geography, history, and culture, the book offers a detailed analysis of the influ…ence of European, British, Ottoman, and American colonialism in the Gulf, and the region's status according to international law, as well as on the importance of oil and gas exploitation. The remainder examines the geography, government, economy, society, and services of Bahrain, Qatar, and the recently-established UAE. For the UAE, it provides a general section addressing the new country's relationship with its neighbours on matters including the three islands contested by Iran, its position vis-à-vis Britain and the individual countries of the Arab League. This is followed by sections on the individual emirates, which offer, for instance, details on all the oil companies operating in Abu Dhabi and its relations with the territories on the Omani coast, urban and economic observations on Dubai, and on tourism in Sharjah, with shorter sections for Ajman, Ras al-Khaimah, and Fujairah. Quarto. Map of the Gulf. Text in Arabic. Original pictorial wrappers, wire-stitched as issued. Ink stamp with author's name, address, and phone on half title. Wrappers toned, few marginal chips, rebacked with original spine onlaid, small tear at blank gutter of map and penultimate leaf, contents toned: a very good copy.
