Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book offers an in-depth survey of Scotland's religious culture from the Middle Ages to the 17th century, meticulously illustrated with sketches of the architectural remains of monasteries, abbeys, churches, and castles. The author provides insightful commentary on the most significant of the ruins, setting each site within the broader context of ecclesiastical life and detailing the role these structures played in the social, political, and religious life of medieval Scotland. Many of the sites depicted are in a state of ruin, their once grand structures now offering only tantalizing glimpses of former splendor. The book offers fascinating reading for anyone interested in medieval Scotland or architectural history. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
