Active around 1400 - initially in their native Nijmegen and subsequently in France - the Van Lymborch Brothers and their uncle Johan Maelwael created hundreds of paintings and miniatures, many of them becoming highlights of the International Gothic style. In our time, their extraordinary quality, their emotional impact and their intelligent stylistic innovations attract the attention of an ever increasing number of researchers. The Maelwael Van Lymborch Studies - an initiative of the Maelwael Van Lymborch Foundation - is an international series aiming to bring together these researchers and offering them a forum by publishing the latest facts and insights about the artists and their work in the context of various cultures: Guelders, France, Italy, the Holy Roman Empire, Flanders, England, and elsewhere.
