Condition: Very good. - A slip of cream-colored paper, 2-5/8 inches high by 7 inches wide, is inscribed and signed in black ink: "With all good wishes / John Howard Lawson". There is light offsetting to the right side of the paper where a small piece of tape adheres to the verso. There are 2 very light vertical creases where the paper was once folded. Very good. John Howard Lawson [1894-1977] was an American writer who for several years was head of the Hollywood division of the Communist Party USA. He was also the organization's cultural manager and answered directly to V. J. Jerome, the party's New York-based cultural chief. He was the first president of the Writers Guild of America, West after the Screen Writers Guild split into two regional organizations. During the McCarthy era in the 1950s, Lawson was one of the Hollywood Ten, the first group of American film industry professionals to be blacklisted.

A 1950s receipt from the Shanghai Old Bookstore, showing the date of transaction, category of the book, number of book, price of the book and cashier's surname. The bookstore's stamp in the centre, a serial number of the receipt upper right section. Text in Chinese. Sheet measures 7.8 x 9.6cm. ???????? "Shanghai Book Publishing Company" was established in 1954. In late 1950s, the company was reconstructed. The new books section was merged into Xinhua Bookstore and Foreign Language Bookstore. The secondhand books or rare books section set up a new business called ?????? "Shanghai Old and Rare Bookstore" and several shop front were open on Fuzhou Road, North Sichuan Road, and they now run book sales and auctions, have a publishing arm, etc.

Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Original business card with autograph dedication as 'Saygilarimla' (With my regards) in Turkish by a pen. 5,5x9 cm. Cihad Baban as Turkish Minister of Culture. Mustafa Cihad Baban was a Turkish journalist, author, and a parliamentary deputy in the 1950s and 1960s. Baban attended Galatasaray High School, Istanbul, and graduated from Istanbul University in 1934. As a journalist, Baban contributed to newspapers including Son Posta, Yeni Sabah, Cumhuriyet, and Tercüman, and he was one of the founders of the Turkish Journalists' Association in 1946. He also wrote a variety of books. Baban was elected in the 1946 general election for the Democratic Party, representing Istanbul. He was re-elected in the 1950 general election and 1954 general election, representing Izmir Province until the 1957 elections, in which he was not elected. He was a member of the constituent assembly which wrote the 1961 Constitution of Turkey, and was Minister of Tourism and Promotion (January to August 1961) in the 1960-1 post-coup government of Cemal Gürsel. In the October 1961 general election he was elected again for the Republican People's Party representing Istanbul, and in the 1965 general election representing Çanakkale. He later served as Minister of Culture in the 1980-3 post-coup government of Bülend Ulusu.
