Volume of plates, sections and maps somewhat faded with bumped corners but amazingly well preserved internally with unfolded tissue guards with text for some plates. A member of congress gave the volume to a town which made minimal markings indicating it was in a library, but this copy was surely never used. Extra shipping cost for this heavy two volume set. David Dale Owen was a son of Robert Owen, who established New Harmony, Indiana where David grew up. The original Socialist structure of this colony was comparatively short lived but it retained its status as a scientific and cultural center. In this work and other, David established the geological formations of the Mississippi Valley and placed them in the developing world-wide series. The gorgeous folding colored geological sections and maps are unusually well preserved.
