Hardcover_boards. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. 6"x8.75". 205 pp. Black faux wood boards. Silver letters on spine. DJ copy by Kip Keller. Production team: Mae Barnard, Tina Budzinski, Alison Durham, Lori Holland, Steven Moore, Kathie Radenbaugh, and Andrea Worthing. Text font is 11 point Go…udy Old Style designed by U.S. printer and typographer, Frederic W. Goudy (1865-1947). The serif font was chosen for its strength, beautiful characterstics, and readability. Shakespeare became famous as a dazzling poet before most people even knew that he wrote plays. His sonnets are the English language's most extraordinary anatomy of love in all its dimensions-desire and despair, longing and loss, adoration and disgust. To read them is to confront morality and eternity in the same breath. Produced under the editorial supervision of Jonathan Bate and Eric Rasmussen, two of today's most accomplished Shakespearean scholars, The Sonnets and Other Poems includes all of Shakespeare's sonnets, the long narrative poems "Venus and Adonis" and "The Rape of Lucrece," and several other shorter works. Incorporating definitive texts and authoritative notes from William Shakespeare: Complete Works, this unique volume also includes an expanded Introduction by Jonathan Bate that places the poems in literary and historical context and illuminates their relationship to Shakespeare's dramatic writing. Also featured are key facts about the individual selections; an index of the first lines of the sonnets; a chronology of Shakespeare's life and times; and recommendations for further reading. Ideal for students and general readers alike, this modern and accessible edition sets a new standard in Shakespearean literature for the twenty-first century. Source: Goodreads.

Contact seller5-star sellerShakespeare, William, 1564-1616. The tragedy of Othello, the moor of Venice. Edited by Barbara A. Mowat and Paul Werstine. 2017, An Updated Edition, 350pp., PAPERBACK, cover price $9.95, very good. In Venice, at the start of Othello, the soldier Iago announces his hatred for his commander, Othello, a Moor. Othello has promoted C…assio, not Iago, to be his lieutenant. Iago crudely informs Brabantio, Desdemona's father, that Othello and Desdemona have eloped. Before the Venetian Senate, Brabantio accuses Othello of bewitching Desdemona. The Senators wish to send Othello to Cyprus, which is under threat from Turkey. They bring Desdemona before them. She tells of her love for Othello, and the marriage stands. The Senate agrees to let her join Othello in Cyprus. In Cyprus, Iago continues to plot against Othello and Cassio. He lures Cassio into a drunken fight, for which Cassio loses his new rank; Cassio, at Iago's urging, then begs Desdemona to intervene. Iago uses this and other ploys--misinterpreted conversations, insinuations, and a lost handkerchief--to convince Othello that Desdemona and Cassio are lovers. Othello goes mad with jealousy and later smothers Desdemona on their marriage bed, only to learn of Iago's treachery. He then kills himself. ISBN 9781501146299.
