I was born in Chicago in 1935 to immigrant parents. Attended Roosevelt High School and Wright Jr. College. Discharged from Army in 1956 after serving 2 years. Moved to K.C. after service, got married then divorced after 18 years. Two adult children of mine and 3 additional with present wife of 31 years. Twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren.
"Making Happy" is about the ten years between divorce and present marriage. The memoir takes place between 1974 and 1984. It is a revealing, exciting, funny, sexy but not pornographic, true story. It is my first attempt at writing. I've already started my second book which is fiction and should be finished later this year.
My sister Elaine Soloway is the author of "The Division Street Princess" a Chicago Tribune book of the year. My niece Jill Soloway is the creator of the Amazon series "Transparent" that won two Golden Globes this year.
People that have purchased the book have contacted me about making a movie about my adventure. I would like to do that but am not familiar with writing a screenplay or submitting to an agent. My story is true and unbelievable by many of my readers that know me, but I lived the life that created Making Happy.
Many of the participants in my memoir have e-mailed or called to thank me for the truthful way they were portrayed in the story, especially since I changed their name.
My memoir is also now available on Amazon Kindle or you can e-mail me at ronshap@msn.com for a signed hard copy for $15.95 including postage.
