Violeta Parra nació en 1917 en San Carlos, Nuble, Chile. A los 12 años escribió sus primeras composiciones. Recopiladora infatigable del arte de su país e intérprete genial, pronto se convierte en creadora original de letras y músicas de alcance internacional. Su talento artístico y sus inquietudes la conducen también a los campos de la cerámica, la tapicería y la pintura. En 1964 expone su obra en el Louvre y poco después, el 5 de febrero de 1967, se suicida de un pistoletazo.
