Item description from seller

Pictorial wrappers. Fine. Rome, Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato, Libreria dello Stato, 1990. 8vo. 88 pp. Illustrated with plans and photos, many in colour. / NB: Text in English. Guide in English to one of Rome's iconic renaissance sites, the Villa Farnesina, a suburban villa in the Via della Lungara in the district of Trastevere. Built between 1506 and 1510 for Agostino Chigi, the Pope's wealthy Sienese banker, it was a novel type of suburban villa, subsidiary to his main Palazzo Chigi in the city. It is especially famous for the rich frescos by Raphael, Sebastiano del Piombo, Giulio Romano, Il Sodoma, and others. The villa is now owned by the Italian state and the principal rooms can be visited.
