There is no reason to rehearse now the grounds on which this judgment is based. Nevertheless, it must be admitted that the monument has yet to take its rightful place within the wider context of medieval architecture in the eastern Islamic world. Hitherto, it has been studied principally as an outstanding example of early Indo-Islamic architecture, and its close links with the monuments of the Delhi area in particular do amplyjustify this proceeding. The Multan tomb can indeed be seen as an early representative of an illustrious tradition of mausolea which culminated in the Taj Mahal.
