Roy Kift lebt seit über zehn Jahren im Ruhrgebiet und bietet fremdsprachigen Gästen mit einem English Tourist-Guide erste Informationen über die Region. Ein solcher Führer füllt eine Lücke, denn viele touristische Angebote im Ruhrgebiet und auch lokale oder regionale Agenturen oder Einrichtungen haben wenig bis keine Möglichkeiten, nicht deutschkundlichen Gästen entsprechende Informationen zur Erschließung der zahlreichen Angebote zugänglich zu machen. Englisch als Universalsprache hat zudem den Vorteil, damit nicht nur Briten, Amerikaner und andere englischsprachige Gäste zu erreichen, auch viele andere ausländische Besucher verstehen bei fehlenden Deutschkenntnissen zumindest Englisch.
Der Reiseführer ist nicht einfach aus vorhandenen Informationen übersetzt, sondern völlig neu konzipiert, um das Ruhrgebiet aus der Perspektive eines Ausländers zu betrachten und zugänglich zu machen. Mit einer gehörigen Portion englischem Humor spricht Roy Kift seine Leser an und hält auch mit seiner Meinung über die touristischen Highlights der Region nicht hinter dem Berg.

This new enlarged (plus 25%) updated edition of the first ever English language guide to the Ruhrgebiet is the result of 15 years' living in the Ruhrgebiet and three year's ongoing travel throughout the area from Hamm in the east to Duisburg in the west, Haltern in the north to Hagen in the south (29 towns and cities). I have tested all the venues personally for general quality, English information and wheelchair access, and also indicate venues which are particularly attractive for families. Bars, discos, restaurants and cafés are included along with extensive information on all the sites along the Industrial Heritage Trail, museums, art galleries, theatres and opera house, parks and baths, Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04. The book starts with a short history of the area. I provide a chapter telling you how to make the most of the public transport system and then give a list of my personal top twelve "hits" before covering the region town by town. Private and!
public transport directions are given to all venues, as are opening times, admission prices, phone, fax, email and website addresses. Readers are invited to send me their comments and suggestions for future editions. I hope you have as much pleasure from reading and using the book as I had from researching and writing it.
