This new enlarged (plus 25%) updated edition of the first ever English language guide to the Ruhrgebiet is the result of 15 years' living in the Ruhrgebiet and three year's ongoing travel throughout the area from Hamm in the east to Duisburg in the west, Haltern in the north to Hagen in the south (29 towns and cities). I have tested all the venues personally for general quality, English information and wheelchair access, and also indicate venues which are particularly attractive for families. Bars, discos, restaurants and cafés are included along with extensive information on all the sites along the Industrial Heritage Trail, museums, art galleries, theatres and opera house, parks and baths, Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04. The book starts with a short history of the area. I provide a chapter telling you how to make the most of the public transport system and then give a list of my personal top twelve "hits" before covering the region town by town. Private and!
public transport directions are given to all venues, as are opening times, admission prices, phone, fax, email and website addresses. Readers are invited to send me their comments and suggestions for future editions. I hope you have as much pleasure from reading and using the book as I had from researching and writing it.
