Adams would feature as the protagonist of two dozen short stories and vignettes written in the 1920s and 1930s by Hemingway. and was partly inspired by the author’s own experiences, from his summers in Northern Michigan at his family cottage to his service in the Red Cross ambulance corps in World War I. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Ernest Hemingway, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, was one of America’s most celebrated writers. Born in Illinois in 1899, he began his career as a reporter before serving as an ambulance driver in the First World War. Known first for short stories, his literary reputation was further enhanced by his novels, including THE SUN ALSO RISES (1926), A FAREWELL TO ARMS (1929), FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS (1940), and THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA (1952). He died in 1961.
