After the Snow Queen abducts her friend Kai, Gerda sets out on a perilous journey to find him.

Hans Christian Andersen and Mary Englebreit. A renowned spinner of tales and an artist with an ever-growing and ever-more-adoring audience. Now in a perfect marriage of imaginations and sensibilities comes Mary Engelbreit's first children's book, a loving rendition of Hans Christian Andersen's THE SNOW QUEEN.

This favorite story from the author of "The Little Mermaid," "The Emperor's New Clothes," "The Ugly Duckling," and dozens of other fairy tales known to generations of readers finds a new spirit in Mary Engelbreit's illustrations. Her warmhearted style is reminiscent of old-fashioned storybooks. The colors are luminous, the design ornate, the mood by turns tender and exuberant. Each painting is a window to a dazzling world where a child can get happily lost.

With its feisty heroine, Gerda, who will stop at nothing, its talking crows and conjuring old crone, its mysterious Snow Queen, and its triumph of love and innocence over wickedness and cynicism, THE SNOW QUEEN is a classic to be rediscovered.
