Published to coincide with the exhibition of the same name. illustrated with eighty works, this book seeks to document the broad time span running from the second century B.C. down to the late Enlightenment, a period during which Egypt, was transformed from history to myth and Egyptomania became Egyptophilia. Brought from the most prestigious collections (the Capitoline Museums, Vatican Museums, the Museo Archeologico Nazionale in Naples, the Louvre, the Pergamon Museum.), the works, chosen by an outstanding scholarly committee, illustrate clearly, with a wealth of cultural references, the intense and age-old ties between Egypt and Rome, and are a guide to the discovery of the Egyptian mysteries in Rome (obelisks, temples, the Serapeon, etc).
