Parmi ses œuvres les plus c�l�bres, on peut citer : Le Fou, Salpi, Ga�dzer (Etincelles), Le journal d'un voleur de croix, Samuel... Passionn� d'histoire et �crivain engag�, il fut consid�r� comme le "Victor Hugo arm�nien". Il voua sa vie � litt�rature et � la cause de son peuple. G�rant les affaires courantes le jour et �crivant la nuit, dop� au th� fort et au tabac, il v�cut et mourut pauvre � l'�ge de 53 ans. Il fut honor� par des fun�railles nationales � Tiflis, capitale administrative de la G�orgie, et capitale culturelle de l'Arm�nie. Il reste l'auteur arm�nien le plus populaire, plus d'un si�cle apr�s sa disparition.
