The English Parliament did not want the throne to revert to a Catholic, and so passed the Act of Settlement 1701, which settled the throne of England on Electress Sophia of Hanover, a cousin of King James II, and her Protestant heirs." (Wikipedia). Oval portrait 11 5/8 x 9 1/2". Impression mark 13 5/8 x 9 7/8". Small but acceptable margins. Trimmed close to the impression line, a little even toning.
