Recent Advances in Water Science is a comprehensive volume that captures the latest developments and innovations in the field of water science. It integrates a wide range of topics, from fundamental hydrological principles to cutting-edge technologies, emphasizing the need for holistic and sustainable water management.
This book is organized into several key sections, each addressing critical aspects of water science. It begins with an exploration of the water cycle and hydrological processes, providing essential context for understanding the dynamics of water systems. This foundation is followed by an in-depth look at urban wetlands which are important in water purification, flood mitigation, groundwater recharge, climate regulation, carbon sequestration, and biodiversity support.
A significant portion of this book is dedicated to water quality management, addressing pollution control, water treatment, and the impact of emerging contaminants on human health and ecosystems. The importance of sustainable practices and adaptive management strategies is highlighted, especially in the face of changing environmental conditions. This book also examines integrated water resource management (IWRM), emphasizing the need for collaboration and stakeholder engagement to balance competing demands for water.
Throughout this book, contributions from leading experts provide insights into current research and future directions. These chapters cover topics such as climate change impacts, application of artificial intelligence in water science, and emerging contaminants. This book also explores the role of policy and governance in shaping sustainable water management practices.
Prof. Peiyue Li is a full professor in the field of hydrogeology and environmental sciences at Chang’an University, China, where he serves as the Vice Dean of School of Water and Environment. He has wide experience in groundwater quality assessment, hydrogeochemistry, and groundwater modeling. He has led over 30 research projects, edited and co-edited over 10 textbooks and academic monographs, and published over 200 articles in refereed journals on topics that range from groundwater quality assessment and groundwater hydrochemistry to groundwater pumping tests and in situ tracer tests. He at present serves as Associate Editors for Exposure and Health, Mine Water and the Environment, Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, Human and Ecological Risk Assessment, Applied Water Science, Water Practice and Technology, and Discover Water. He has been awarded one of the most highly cited researchers by Clarivate, Elsevier, and other organizations. He has also been given several national/provincial talent titles and awards for recognizing his achievements in research and teaching.
Prof. Vetrimurugan Elumalai is an established Hydrogeologist expertise in contaminant hydrology and groundwater modelling. He is excelling as an established researcher and mentor and Head of the department of Hydrology, University of Zululand, South Africa. He is South African National Chair of Hydrology (SARChI-Tier 1). His project experience covers groundwater resource investigation and development, groundwater characterization, contaminant hydrogeology and urban development, surface water groundwater interactions, remote sensing, and GIS application in Water Resource Management. He has published about 80 research papers in reputed journals. He is registered scientist with SACNASP. He is a life member of International Association of Hydrological Science, International Association of Hydrogeologists, International Association of Hydrological Sciences and Geological Survey of South Africa.
Dr. Jianhua Wu is a Full Professor at Chang'an University in China, specializing in hydrology and water resources in arid areas, loess seepage and its disaster mechanisms, and groundwater environmental protection.
