viii, 170; xiv, 171-376; xxii, 377-547 pp. Roger de Coverly full morocco binding with gilt ruling and decoration to the spine and boards & raised bands and lettering to the spine. Endpapers marbled and top edge gilt. Translated with notes by E. G. King, and with a preface by the Bishop of Durham. Damage to the head of the spine at the rear hinge with loss to the leather measuring 3.5cm x 0.5 cm, alongside scratching to the spine and boards. Minor spots to the prelims, and some occasional markings internally. Binding firm. With a hand written note taped to the first free endpaper by British scholar of Hebrew D. [David] Winton Thomas, and two other notes loosely enclosed which look to be in the same hand. The table bears an ownership label belonging to a Winsome Tuke. 4to. Seller Inventory # 74130

The authorâs task has been to show the leading thought and poetical structure of each Psalm. These Psalms have been chosen for their devotional use by the educated English reader and for such of the Clergy as are not afraid of reverent criticism. The Alphabetical Psalms are studied together so that their whole group of characteristics may be better appreciated. The author shows that, even in prose, I is used of the whole community or nation. He also examines the interchange of the Divine Names, the First Collection being Elohistic, the Second Jehovistic, and the Third again Elohistic, and suggests a reason for this. The authorâs belief that the Psalms, though not all Messianic, will all become in a certain sense a voice of Christ adds to the depth and interest of his commentary. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
