Item description from seller

In the 1940's, Robert "Ed" Edward Donkin and Albert S. Hovan, were both working as miners in Frank, Alberta. This collection of their addressed envelopes (all with various town cancels dating from 1936-1944) offers the ability to trace mobile Albertan mining families - and some of the connections they made, while working in this important wartime trade. Envelopes only, no letters. 34 envelopes and 1 postally unused postcard of the Frank Slide, all variously toned w. soil, staining and tears. A coal mining town, Frank is infamous for the 1903 Frank Slide, which destroyed much of the mine, several businesses and houses, killing 70-90 people. Frank is now part of the municipality of Crowsnest Pass. Ref. ancestry dot ca.
