The text meticulously covers fundamental concepts, progressing from basic elements such as types and operators to more complex structures like arrays and matrices. It elucidates key programming constructs including selection statements, loop structures, scripts, and functions, providing readers with a solid foundation in MATLAB programming.
The book's structure is carefully crafted to facilitate step-by-step learning, with each chapter building upon previous knowledge. Abundant examples and exercises reinforce understanding, while dedicated sections on data visualisation, algorithm development, and practical applications in engineering, science, and finance demonstrate MATLAB's versatility across disciplines.
A distinguishing feature of this volume is its inclusion of laboratory work and coursework, allowing readers to apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios. This hands-on approach enhances the learning experience and prepares users for practical implementation of MATLAB in their respective fields.
In the current era of artificial intelligence, this book serves as an essential resource for those seeking to leverage MATLAB's capabilities. It not only equips readers with programming skills but also illustrates how MATLAB can be integrated into cutting-edge research and industry applications.
Dr Yi Chen (B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D., C.Eng., FIET, FIMechE, FRSA, FHEA, SMIEEE) is a distinguished researcher at the forefront of artificial intelligence, robotics and autonomous systems, high-performance computing, and Industry 4.0. His prolific academic career is marked by over 100 high-impact publications in international journals and conferences, amassing more than 2000 citations. Dr Chen's scholarly contributions extend to four authored academic books, 20+ invited seminars and talks, and 10+ authorised patents, underscoring his innovative approach to research. In recognition of his multidisciplinary expertise, Dr Chen serves on the editorial board of a JCR Q2 journal and has guest-edited five special issues. His commitment to academic rigour is further evidenced by his status as a Publons' top 1\% reviewer in Computer Science and Engineering, regularly assessing submissions for over 30 journals and prestigious publishers such as Springer, Elsevier, IEEE, Cambridge University Press, and CRC Press. Dr Chen's academic leadership is demonstrated through his involvement in organising and serving on programme committees for more than 10 international conferences affiliated with IEEE, ASME, ACM, and Springer. His influence extends beyond individual research, playing a pivotal role in fostering multidisciplinary collaborations across national and international boundaries, thus contributing significantly to the advancement of his fields of expertise.
Dr Long Huang earned his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 2014. Prior to joining Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in 2020, his industry experience includes consultancy work at Navigant Consulting Inc. (Washington D.C., USA) and Daikin Industries Ltd. (Osaka, Japan). Dr. Huang has more than ten years of experiences in the development of thermo-fluid system modeling and simulation algorithms. His research aims at pushing the boundary of performance enhancement of heat exchangers, through in-depth investigations of the heat and mass transfer phenomena. Dr. Huang’s research has been sponsored by NSFC, Jiangsu Ministry of Education, and a range of renowned manufactures in relevant fields.
