First biography of the Scottish soldier and British colonial administrator. Munro (1761-1827) served as an East India Company Army officer and statesman, in addition to also being the governor of Madras Presidency. Octavo: xvi, 484 pp. + iv, 463, [1, blank] pp. with a frontispiece portrait and a colored folding map. In full blue calf bindings by Zaehnsdorf, with red and brown morocco spine labels, gilt-stamped titling, borders, and ornamentation, blind-stamped dentelles, and marbled endpapers and edges. Faint tide mark along two edges of the frontispiece. Period ink gift inscription from one Eton student to another. The spines are a bit toned, with some minor scuffing and wear to the leather; otherwise very good. Seller Inventory # 79653
