Dieses Pionierwerk der Bibelwissenschaft erhellt den j�dischen Hintergrund der neutestamentlichen Schriften und hat damit zwischen den Weltkriegen eine neue Basis f�r das Verst�ndnis des Neuen Testaments geschaffen. Ziel ist es, „den gesamten der Erl�uterung des Neuen Testaments dienlichen Stoff aus der altj�dischen Literatur zu sammeln, zu sichten und in zuverl�ssiger �bersetzung bequem zug�nglich zu machen“ (Einleitung). Das Material wird in der Reihenfolge des Neuen Testaments pr�sentiert; synoptische Parallelen werden bei ihrem ersten Vorkommen im Matth�usevangelium kommentiert, dem dadurch der bei Weitem gr��te Umfang gewidmet ist. Das mehrb�ndige Werk entstand in den 1920er-Jahren und konzentriert sich auf Vergleichsstellen aus Talmud und Midrasch. Trotz dieser Einschr�nkung gilt die Quellensammlung bis heute international als eine einzigartige Fundgrube, die wohl auch in den n�chsten Jahrzehnten durch kein vergleichbares Nachschlagewerk ersetzt werden wird.
