Synopsis:

Although the events at half influenced the outcome of the war on German territory and thus the unconditional surrender of the Wehrmacht, they stand in the shadow of the "Battle for the Seelower Heights" and the battles in Berlin. The inclusion of parts of the 9th Army and the V. Army Corps of the 4th Tank army in the "Cauldron of Halbe" was not only the result of the superior guided attack operations of the 1st Belarusian Front and the 1st Ukrainian front, but also several political and military decisions. Both authors describe the paths of the German troops into the cauldron and their numerous outbreak attempts, sign the dramatic situation of the trapped as well as the consequences of the battle visible to this day. Based on the analysis of numerous Soviet battle journals, orders and evaluation reports, the command positions and actions of the associations of both fronts are presented.
