Excerpt from The International System: Theoretical Essays
It would be too much to suggest that the papers in this collection offer any clear way out of this predicament. If anything, they are more effective in making the predicament explicit than in resolving it, but, after all, undertaking the first task is a requisite for the accomplishment of the second. Nevertheless, several papers suggest approaches that lie somewhere between the precision of mathematical models and the confusion of historical reality. These approaches include the mixed motive games of Schelling and the bargaining theory referred to by Burns.

Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. ?This is a book of essays by a group of American and Australian economists and political scientists. They seek, at the highest level, a theory of the world polity and, at a lower level, a theory of the role of component states within this polity. They are dissatisfied with the more established approach in international relations, with its narrower interest in the relationship between states and its egocentric one-country or two-country models. As a novel scientific approach to international affairs, this volume claims our attention as citizens. May it help a little to avoid a return to beggar-my-neighbor policies and war.?-Economic Journal This item is printed on demand.
