8vo, 9 1/2 x 6 1/4 inches (240 x 160 mm); 16 pp., photo composed in 10-point Baskerville and printed in purple on Abbey Mills Text Book White laid paper. Lithographic reproductions of 16 drawings by Peter MacKarell. Sewn into overlapping Strathmore Grandee Valencia Red paper covers and printed in black, with line-block reproduction of a drawing from the text in purple on the front. Cover has a few spots of discoloration on the upper right edge. One of 800 copies printed. [Butcher 19]. An early Whittington Press production combining Peter MacKarell's lively text with sixteen charming drawings illustrating the history of air travel. Printed in the Press's distinctive style, with the text set in Baskerville and enhanced by carefully reproduced illustrations, this attractive booklet captures the romance and ingenuity of flight through the eyes of an artist and designer. A delightful example of the Whittington Press's early illustrated work and an appealing addition to collections of aviation, private press, and twentieth-century illustrated books.
