174pp , IN ENGLISH, ABOUT THE AUTHOR :: Ernest Howard Shepard OBE , MC ( December 10, 1879 until March 24, 1976 ) was an English artist and book illustrator . He was known especially for its humanlike in illustrations for The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame and Winnie-the-Pooh by AA Milne .Shepard born in St John's Wood , London animals. After having shown some promise in the drawing in the school of St. Paul Shepard enrolled at the School of Fine Arts Heatherleys Chelsea . [ 1] Having spent a productive year there, Shepard won a scholarship to the Royal Academy Schools [2 ] which would meet Eleanor Florence Chaplin who would become his first wife. [3 ] In 1906 Shepard became a successful illustrator , having worked for the illustrated editions of Aesop's fables , David Copperfield and Tom Brown 's Schooldays , as an illustration for drilling . [4 ] In 1915 , Shepard received a commission in the Royal Garrison Artillery , an arm of the Royal Artillery . [5 ] In 1916 Shepard began working for the Intelligence Department outlining the combat area within view of the position of the battery. [6 ] In 1917 , while commissioned as a second lieutenant, and acting as captain, was awarded the Military Cross for his service in the Battle of Passchendaele in World War your citation said :. [ 7] For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. As a forward observation officer continued to observe and send valuable information , despite heavy shell and machine gun fire. His courage and coolness were visible . Throughout the war he had helped coup. He was hired as a staff cartoonist staff in 1921 and became a draftsman of lead in 1945, but was removed from the post by Malcolm Muggeridge , who became editor in 1953. [8 ] Shepard Milne recommended by another member of staff Punch , EV Lucas in 1923. at first , he thought Milne style of Shepard was not what he wanted, but he used to illustrate his book of poems When we were very young . Shepard grew up in the 1880s in Saint John's Wood with his brother and sister. He was surrounded by domestic servants and maiden aunts, in a an age when horse-drawn buses and hansom cabs crowded the streets. Recalling this time with charm and humour, Shepard illustrates these scenes in his own distinctive style.
