Item description from seller

True Pre-War First Edition. Complete set of 7 miniature double-sided folding maps mapping Great Britain across 14 distinct regional sections. Contained within the publisher's original small black textured slip box (approx. 4" x 2.75") featuring exceptionally bright, clear green stamped lettering to the front panel and a complete, matching green-stamped Key Map to the rear panel. An absolutely pristine, collector-grade example in Fine condition overall. The original slip box remains structurally sturdy, tight, and robust, with the 7 individual map booklets fitting snugly inside exactly as issued. Each map booklet is bound in clean, crisp, unlettered plain black cloth boards. Internally, the folding maps are in immaculate, Fine condition, retaining their brilliant colour palettes, sharp red Ministry of Transport road indicators, and crisp original folds, completely free from the split junctions, annotations, or finger-soiling that standardly afflicts these pocket road guides. Historical Summary:A beautiful, evocative piece of late-1930s British social and transport history, compiled by the legendary editor and engineer F. J. Camm. Designed explicitly as a practical, lightweight touring companion for the interwar cycling boom, each of the 7 double-sided maps collapses down to a compact 16mo pocket size. Alongside the detailed regional cartography scaled at 8 miles to the inch, each volume includes Camm's signature 'Useful Information for Cyclists' compendium, detailing contemporary cycling laws, railway transit rates, and early national camping regulations. Every effort has been made to verify the presence and pristine condition of all 7 double-sided booklets mapping sections 1 through 14 (encompassing England, Wales, and parts of Scotland). While the regional boundaries and transport data align perfectly with the known 1938–1939 Newnes print states, minor variations in pre-war municipal boundary allocations may exist in the historical plates. High-resolution photographs of the custom green-stamped box panels, the snug interior layout, and several immaculate open maps are fully uploaded as an integral part of this listing for the buyer's exact inspection.…

Store description

I have collected books most of my life. My collection has reduced now to about 4,000 items. I list a few more as time goes by! It is difficult sometimes to allow old friends to move on. Of course, they can find fresh enthusiasm from their new owners. No matter how many items you handle, there's always excitement and interest. It is vital however that my items are described accurately and I would hope to offer good value. If you see something that you feel is 'too high' for your pocket, don't hesitate to make me an offer. I try to keep the postage costs down, and within the United Kingdom this will be free. Posting abroad will be competitive, and often I will not ask for additional amounts if this is viable. But weight of items is the deciding factor. I will add images to my descriptions, and I hope that the combination will help you to decide. Regardless, always double check or take time to contact me for further information, or merely just to clarify a point. Ask for more images. If I can reduce anything I will do so. If you purchase more than one item, then offering a decent discount is likely. If items are not as described or you have a valid problem with any item, then I am happy to make a full or partial refund. This will be in line with all Statutory guidelines e.g returning the book in the condition it was delivered, and do let me know as quickly as possible. If damage has occurred then try to provide images. Ring me on 01352-810931…
