Het wordt De Cock al snel duidelijk dat hij is vermoord. De Rus, die in Amsterdam was om als balletmeester een beroemd gezelschap uit Sint-Petersburg te begeleiden, blijkt geen onbekende in de stad. De destijds flamboyante maar getroebleerde Miki had in zijn gloriejaren bij het Nationale Ballet gedanst, maar was tien jaar geleden met stille trom vertrokken. Naar nu blijkt met achterlating van zijn vriendin, ballerina Noortje Blom, en hun ongeboren kind. De Cock en Vledder besluiten zijn moordenaar vooralsnog in balletkringen te zoeken, maar stuiten gaandeweg op meer demonen uit Miki's duistere verleden.A.C.
