Städtische Reihenhäuser – town houses – entstanden in Europa ab dem 7. Jahrhundert. Im Regelfall zwei- bis dreigeschossig und mit einem Garten auf der Rückseite ausgestattet, bildeten sie den städtischen Block. Gérald Ledent ist Architekturprofessor an der UCLouvain in Brüssel, wo er sowohl Theorie als auch Entwurf unterrichtet. In seiner Doktorarbeit " Potentiels Relationnels" untersuchte er die Beziehungen zwischen Räumen und Nutzungen in Wohnungen anhand von mehr als . Wohneinheiten in Brüssel. Er ist auch der Autor von Institutions amp the City: The Role of Architecture (Zürich, Park Books, 2 22), das die Rolle der Architektur bei der Schaffung und Aufrechterhaltung von sozialen Strukturen untersucht. Gérald Ledent is an architecture professor at UCLouvain in Brussels, where he teaches theory as well as in various studios. His PhD thesis, "Potentiels Relationnels", explores the relations in dwelling between spaces and uses illustrated by an atlas of more than , housing units in Brussels. Ledent plays a coordination role in the Uses amp Spaces research team, in which his interests focus on the relationship in architecture between uses and spaces, housing typo-morphologies, and research by design. Recently, Ledent co-edited Sustainable Dwelling (Brussels, PUL – PU Louvain, 2 9), a book that examines the social and spatial dimensions of housing from a sustainability perspective.
