M.Ashraf had the opportunity of visiting Ladakh in June, 1974 when it was thrown open to tourists, both domestic and foreign. He and his colleague Abdul Rauf traveled to Kargil and Leh to survey the availability of infrastructure for the expected tourists. After this first visit Mr.Ashraf traveled to Ladakh during his entire tenure of 30 years in the Tourism department. He not only traveled to Ladakh two to three times every year but also helped in the setting up various facilities. An interesting read for both the earlier travelers to recall their nostalgic experiences and for future travelers as a guide about what there is to see and experience!
