Item description from seller

The American Youth: Being a New and Complete Course of Introductory Mathematics: Designed for the Use of Private Students. By Consider and John Sterry and printed in Providence by Bennett Wheeler. 1790. 387 pp. 7.25 x 4.75. 12mo. Hardcover contemporary full leather. As-is, with front board mostly detached. Loss of binding on spine. Losses to end pages, with one at front detached. Various inscriptions and markings throughout text block. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. An extremely scarce printing of an early American mathematics textbook. A rare early Providence imprint. John Sterry (1766-1823) was a Providence-born Baptist clergyman who served as pastor of the First Baptist Church in Norwich, Connecticut. Marked as Volume I, but believed to be the only volume printed. A wonderful piece for restoration.
