Item description from seller

Hardcover. Rebound in gray cloth - an attractive institutional-type binding. Gold lettering on the spine. The letters LC embossed neatly on the title page. A few pencil notation on the copyright page. 379 pages + 73 page appendix. Binding is good and tight and crisp. Text block good and tight. Pages slightly toned from age, but overall very good. The Appendix of the Secret Session is where the state states "[the people of Virginia] do further declare that said constitution of the United States of America is no longer binding on any of the citizens of this state." It goes on to establish a Virginia Army and Navy and outline the laws of the state government. By April of 1861, the 7 southernmost states had already seceded from the Union. It was not until Fort Sumpter in April that Virginia officially seceded -- this publication is the official enactment and publication of that secession, printed that same year.
