No Dustjacket. A bit scuffed but all pages intact and legible. Good reading copy. Clean. No store stamps.--- HERE'S THE FIRST FEW SENTENCES --- --- "GREEN WALNUTS! Green walnuts!" - "The list of the winners in the lottery!" - "Carpe vive!" - "Death to the rats!" - The cries of all Paris were in Pierre's ears. But he heard only the cooing of an absent dove. He was in love again. - The Pont-Neuf was a screaming Hydra. The bridge teemed with hundreds of venders; knife grinders, well cleaners, vinegar merchants, ink and parasol sellers. Did these venders ever leave the bridge? Had they eaten and slept here between cries and begot their filthy little urchins of a night in the squalid stalls since Henry IV.
