Ce livre contient les exposes des orateurs invites au colloque IAU 121 Inside the Sun qui s'est tenu a Versailles du 22 au 26 mai 1989. Le but de Inside the Sun etait d'accroitre nos connaissances sur l'interieur du Solei! et la physique qui lui est reliee, il a permis, esperons-Ie, un echange d'idees, de theories et d'informations entre les differents groupes. Cette conference represente Ie premier pas vers une evaluation glob ale des idees importantes, tant theoriques qu'experimentales, necessaires a la comprehension de l'interieur du Solei!. Les 175 participants de 24 pays sont la preuve qu'une communaute vivante, concernee par ce sujet existe bien. Quel endroit plus approprie que Versailles, la ville du Roi Soleil, Louis XIV, pour tenir, exactement deux siecles apres les Etats Generaux , cette sorte d' Etats Generaux du creur du Solei!! A la fin de ce livre les deux petits textes historiques sont la reminiscence de cette conjonction spatio-temporelle. Enfin, bien que Ie temps soit reste magnifique durant toute la semaine, l'audience n'a ja mais faibli. Comme le faisait remarquer Jean Audouze dans son discours inaugural, Ie centre du Solei! est un sujet tres interdisciplinaire.
