Entomologiste de formation, Carsten Höller (né en 1961 à Bruxelles, vit et travaille à Stockholm) fait de l'expérience scientifique le moteur d'un travail artistique principalement axé sur la nature des relation humaines. Il a été l'auteur d'importantes installations, parmi lesquelles « Test Site » (2006), au Turbine Hall de la Tate Modern et « Amusement Park » (2006) au MASS MoCa de North Adams, aux États-Unis. À Londres, en 2008, Höller a ouvert l'éphémère Double Club, un bar, restaurant et night club dédié au dialogue entre les cultures congolaise et occidentale. En près de vingt ans, l'artiste a fait l'objet d'expositions personnelles à travers le monde entier : Fondazione Prada, Milan (2000) ; ICA Boston (2003) ; Musée d’Art Contemporain, Marseille (2004) ; Kunsthaus Bregenz, Autriche (2008) ; Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam (2010) ; Hamburger Bahnhof, Museum für Gegenwart, Berlin (2011), New Museum, New York (2011) ; TBA 21, Vienne (2014) ; National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne (2014-15).
