Synopsis

How did people live in Würzburg during the imperial period, as in the Nazi period, and how after the collective trauma of destruction on March 16, 1945? The highly stately apartment with nine rooms stands next to the board crash, which only protects against rain and cold. Slowly it went up after the war, in the first years people needed a decent roof over their heads, later large housing estates were built with enthusiasm. Housing shortage was still almost always in Würzburg. Essential actors in the fight against it were the social housing associations, the city building Würzburg is today the largest of them. When the non-profit building society for small apartments were founded in 1934 and the Heuchelhof Society in 1966, as the second root of urban construction, this development was not foreseen. With the merger of the two in 2011, the "big city building" was created. All three societies have contributed significantly to urban development. But this book does not only look back. There are also answers to the questions of the future: how is social housing going on - not only in Würzburg? What can be done against the further rising construction prices? How do young people want to live and how can artificial intelligence help to continue offering apartments at affordable rentals?
