Synopsis
Published to accompany the exhibition The Blue Rider at Contemporary Fine Arts, Berlin, 2005, this series of paintings and sculptures by the London-based artist Chris Ofili takes its name from the seminal art publication by Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc. The catalogue alternates image and text; and includes quotations from Ralph Ellison, Bessie Smith, Lonnie Johnson and Blind Willie McTell. Ofili won the Turner prize in 1998, with his controversial paintings which mixed religious iconography and elephant dung.
