Synopsis

"The Evil" examines the problems facing the modern world as explored in the work of three generations of artists, including Joseph Beuys, Barbara Kruger, Martha Rosler, Matthew Antezzo, Andrea Bowers, Eberhard Havekost, Olaf Nicolai and Dan Perjovschi. This provocative study focuses in particular on artists' attitudes towards the media and how they use their art to express their own political views. This is a stimulating survey of artistic responses to the pressing global issues of the last 40 years. It features works by leading modern and contemporary artists dealing with such controversial topics as climate change and globalization. It includes an original essay by the well-known American novelist Jonathan Lethem.
