Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has the potential to have a profound impact on the teaching and learning process. Universities and other Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are mostly involved with this change. The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of technology in learning in general and in Higher Education in particular. This study focuses on the platforms commonly used for e-learning support from Universities, the so called Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs). Previous case studies on the use of VLEs to support a blended way of learning are then discussed, followed by a description and the findings of a small scale qualitative research project which addresses, investigates and analyzes the main concerns about teaching through VLEs from the tutors¿ perspective. The key findings are clearly stated and discussed in detail, followed by recommendations on how an efficient e-learning interface can be set up. This study should be of interest to Learning Technologists, E-Learning Managers, Academics and anyone who would be interested in integrating technology in their teaching practice.
