Synopsis

Autobiographical attempts, ›war diary‹ and previously unpublished self-testimonies as well as the ›Neapolitan diary‹ from Bachmann's exciting early time as a free writer: from these texts, first gathered in the new volume of the Salzburg Bachmann Edition, previously unknown biographical insights can be gained; stereotype and Medial medimedimedimedimediImages of the author are questioned and corrected.

The dark sides of a vagabond between many places and languages become visible - from the Italian living community with Hans Werner Henze on Ischia and in Naples to stays in Vienna, Klagenfurt, Paris and Rome to reading trips through Germany. Clearly recognizable is the tension between the utopia of a free artist life and the concern for economic survival.

The many fragmentary notates and text varieties reflect a literally 'dismembered' life, the dare to expose yourself to an uncertain existence. From them speaks the intimate voice of an I, which acts as spontaneous and immediate as well as hesitant, sometimes hard and apodictic and which becomes increasingly fragile and fragile over the years. In her poetics of the ›transition‹ of art and life, Bachmann opens up a space for experimentation and experience for an existence »senza casa«.
