Synopsis

Finally: Marcel Beyer presents a new volume of poetry. With the title is the reference to the motivic bracket: materiality. Things, whether flower, feather, shit or the West, which can be found and reintegrated with colleagues from all times; the grain of the most diverse everyday and political voices. For Marcel Beyer, such polyphony is the only effective antidote against the whole monolithic, fanatical, fascist and chauvinistic nonsense in poetry and talking about it. Materiality as a distinguishing feature of the other arts, whose echo effect these poems capture: the writing inspired by photographs, writing with the perspective that an emerging poem will be performed by a foreign voice, and sung to it. Materiality as a special constellation of an art genre: the poems ("tiger make-up") extending up to the year 2001 have something scenical: a figure gets materiality through her embodiment in the stage space. Marcel Beyer's sovereignty in dealing with his material, with the colleagues, with contemporary history, the zeitgeist and the people hopping in it is unpredictably overwhelming: the materialist among the lyricists combines what has been and present into the never existent.
