Synopsis

The father, born in 1893, small employee at a large auditing firm, documents his working life between 1951 and 1973 in a series of note-taking calendars. First, it remains puzzling what he needs it for: To be able to give his superiors information about his work places and times at any time? To keep his income and expenses under control? Or even to make sure of the upswing that the young Federal Republic unmistakably takes? And then the father's memory books also act as role models in his family. Mother and son also begin to write down their everyday life in note-taking calendars, even in more detail than the father. The booklet works as a kind of diary before the diary, as literature before literature. Michael Rutschky reconstructs their lives in the early Federal Republic using the notes of a family. But he delivers more: the notes on train departure times, weekly purchases and class work gradually reveal not only the story of a family, but, in context, an impressive and touching early history of the Federal Republic.
