About the Author

Arthur Ransome, born in 1884, went on to become famous as the author of the Swallows and Amazons books, known all over the world. He spent many happy summers at Nibthwaite, on the shores of Coniston Water and worked for the Manchester Guardian as a foreign correspondent, travelling to Russia and reporting at first-hand the events of the Revolution in 1917.
