Synopsis

Using up scraps is always a challenge and D'Arcy-Jean has put together over 25 projects that are simply straightforward and yet creating startling effects. D'Arcy starts with what you've got - you will find ways to assess what you've got in terms of colour and quantity, then choose what item you can make based on that, and then you can pick a design to follow or adapt yourself, and that's all there is to it. There are instructions on making 25 different items, with plenty of tips and advice so they are adapted every which way. There is even a project on how to gut a pair of jeans and use every last little bit! D'Arcy's friendly, accessible style invites the reader to be bold and experimental. In addition there is practical advice on sorting your "fabric food chain" (where size matters), how to combine colours, plus stitching tips, and finishing off and making up an item yourself. It's simple - choose what you like from the list of options and you use your existing supplies of fabric to make it. All the designs are adaptable. Techniques include machine embroidery (without any special sewing machine additions), cord-making, and jewellery-making to add finishing touches.Projects include: reversible fabric bowls, "sweet beads" - decorative items that can be adapted for all kinds of trimmings, the world's easiest fabric bag, dinky dolls, and some two-minute filler projects like "Button Blooms" that can used as brooches, pins, or hair ornaments.
