His work has long been recognised for its innovation and his reputation for clashes with the so-called gardening 'establishment' are famous. He has won many accolades including Silver Gilt at Chelsea Flower Show, however, arguably his biggest achievement was to popularize gardening through the medium of television and move it away from the exclusive and stultifying atmosphere of a private club. This is Diarmuid's characteristically open and honest account of his chaotic, inspired and infuriating (to himself and others) road to success.

Diarmuid Gavin owns his own garden design business, designing and creating bespoke gardens for both private and commercial clients. After winning the Royal Dublin Society Gold medal for garden design twice during the nineties, he subsequently displayed at the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show in 1995 and 1996. Diarmuid returned to Chelsea in 2004 and was awarded Silver Gilt for his show garden, A Contemporary Suburban Garden. As well as success in the gardening world, Diarmuid has had vast experience in the media world, presenting gardening programmes for television and radio, and as well as writing for newspapers in the UK and Ireland, he has written six books on garden design. Diarmuid's work has long been recognised for the innovative design and use of materials, which would not normally be associated with the domestic garden.
