Although much of the allure of magic lies in its mystery, there are a huge number of amazing tricks that can be performed at an amateur level, opening up the world of performance to people of all ages and levels of experience. In this comprehensive new book, Nicholas Einhorn opens with an introduction to the most important events and names in the art's rich history, from the earliest street performers to the hi-tech television and stage shows today. There then follows more than 320 tricks you can learn to do yourself, ranging from card, money and mind magic, optical illusions, and close-up magic to confounding puzzles, party tricks and larger-scale stand-up and stage illusions. More than 3200 clear step-by-step colour photographs reveal the skills you need to bend a knife, make money appear from thin air, predict the future, or cut a person in two. Close-up secret views show exactly how each illusion is performed, and expert tips on preparing each trick and the patter enable the reader to achieve a polished performance. A special section on putting on a show provides invaluable advice on planning your own performance. This includes selecting a venue, sending out invitations, choosing music and costumes, setting up the stage and practising your stage-craft, as well as ideas for running orders and sample programmes. Whether you are a keen novice or want to expand your repertoire and build on existing skills, this highly accessible, comprehensive and inspiring book will enable you to confound and amaze friends and family, providing hours of enjoyment for both the performer and audience alike.
