Synopsis

Summoned to compete in a royal bridal contest, Tatiana has no desire to win. Nonetheless, she ends up far from home as a newlywed with an unfriendly new stepdaughter named Snow. Although it quickly becomes apparent that Snow detests her stepmother, how far will she actually go to get rid of her? Fortunately, Tatiana has made an unexpected friend and ally: the witch Baba Yaga, whose hut on chicken legs contains plenty of magic. And the newly crowned Princess Tatiana needs all the help she can get as she attempts to befriend Snow, evades brushes with death, embarks on a quest for love, and ultimately undertakes a long forest hunt for the girl who hates her. Will Tatiana find her happily-ever-after ending—or even survive?

“An inspired recasting of Snow White that unfolds in richly surprising detail” (author Tom Patterson) and does so “in lyrical prose that transports the reader into a world steeped in history and folklore (Kate Koppy, Fairytales in Contemporary American Culture).
