Synopsis

WELL, THAT DIDN'T WORK: A Guide of What NOT to Do While Dating

By Greg Birch & Stacie Birch

Dating is supposed to be fun, right? Swipe right, flirt a little, fall in love, ride off into the sunset. Easy. Clean. Rom-com perfect.

Yeah... not even close.

If you've ever left a date questioning your life choices, wondering how the charming coffee date turned into a therapy session-or how you managed to match with someone who clearly missed the "no drama" memo-this book is for you.

Between the two of us, we've swum through the full spectrum of dating disasters. Toxic relationships? Been there. Love bombing? Got the T-shirt. Ghosting, gaslighting, and ghosting again? Check, check, and check. We've made the mistakes, repeated them, cried over them, and (eventually) laughed about them-and now we're spilling the tea so you don't have to live through the same mess.

Inside this brutally honest, hilariously relatable dating guide, you'll find:

  • The red flags you keep ignoring (and the green ones you keep missing)
  • The real reasons you're attracting the same broken dynamics in different packages
  • True, laugh-out-loud stories that will make you cringe, nod, and feel deeply seen
  • Why we play dating games (and why they never, ever work)
  • The top self-sabotaging behaviors killing your love life-and how to break free
  • ❤️ What ACTUALLY works in creating a real, healthy, lasting relationship

This book isn't about telling you to manifest your soulmate through vision boards and positive vibes. This is the dating guide you wish your best friend had written-equal parts truth bomb, tough love, and hilarious vent session over a glass of wine.

We wrote this for the people who've been burned, ghosted, breadcrumbed, and benched-and still believe in love.

For the people who've done the midnight "wyd" texts they regretted immediately.

For the ones who keep falling for the "potential" instead of the person in front of them.

And most importantly-for the ones ready to stop playing the same old dating games and finally change the ending.

Whether you're fresh on the apps or deep in dating burnout, this guide will help you break your patterns, rewrite your story, and laugh your way to a better love life.

So if you're ready to:

  • Stop falling for walking red flags
  • End the cycles of disappointment, confusion, and mixed signals
  • Laugh, cry, and scream "OMG, SAME!" at least 20 times
  • Learn what actually works (and what to run from fast)
  • And finally, finally, find someone who doesn't suck...

Then WELL, THAT DIDN'T WORK is your new favorite book.

It's honest. It's funny. It's painfully real. And it just might be the thing that gets you unstuck.

You've tried all the wrong things. Now let's talk about what actually works.

Raised in El Paso, TX, Stacie Shanelle has a BA in criminal justice that she never actually used-unless you count interrogating bad dates. After spending 12.5 years wrangling middle schoolers as a special education teacher and coach, she swapped lesson plans for lunges and now helps people transform their health through fitness, nutrition, and mindset coaching.Despite only a couple of serious relationships in her 20s and 30s, she naively thought dating would be a breeze when she re-entered the scene. Spoiler alert: it was not. From awkward encounters to "this-can't-be-real" moments, her dating experiences were a mix of comedy, chaos, and valuable life lessons-many of which are now immortalized in this book.Luckily, she eventually met Greg, her soulmate and "puzzle piece," and together they now coach individuals and couples to be their healthiest, happiest selves. Their book is a way of ensuring you laugh, learn, and (hopefully) avoid some of the dating disasters they didn't.
