About the Author

The author is the Resilience Manager in a top tier local authority in the UK, with responsibilities for emergency management and business continuity management. This includes advising the Schools Service and individual schools within the county. He has an MSc in Emergency Planning and Disaster Management, during the completion of which he undertook a project on school emergency planning, and he is a member of the Emergency Planning Society. He has been involved in the response to a number of emergencies, including several school incidents. He has a Diploma in Business Continuity Management and is a member of the Business Continuity Institute. He is also a member of the International Association of Emergency Management. Before joining the Local Authority, he worked for four years in Bosnia with the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). There he was responsible for the training of international election supervisors and then the planning and conduct of elections in eight municipalities. His last role was as a Deputy Director for one of the four Regional Centres. Prior to his time with the OSCE he served as an officer in the British Army, serving on operations in Belize and Bosnia.
